ISYS – Hi Betty, thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to share this important information with the readers of ISYS-DFW.  Please give a brief overview of Living Well Dallas.  What services are offered?

Betty: Living Well Dallas is The Most Comprehensive Integrative Medical Center in the Dallas area dedicated to helping our clients achieve optimal health and well-being.   At Living Health & Wellness Center, we partner with our clients to help them achieve optimal well-being. By providing services in functional and restorative medicine, nutrition, bio-identical hormone management, counseling, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, life coaching and even professional organizing; we offer one stop to address any of your needs.  By combining medicine and other health-care services in one facility, we are able to provide a more comprehensive level of support for our clients.  We do not force you into any programs, we work with you devising your perfect plan based on what is important to you and what you need right now.   For some clients, medical services are the priority, for others it might be nutrition or weight loss, or working on their relationship and stress management.  Regardless of the issue you are struggling with, we have a solution that we can design just for you.

ISYS:  Bob, tell us about CONTACT Crisis Line.

Bob:  CONTACT has been serving our Dallas Metroplex community uninterrupted for over 42 years answering the call from people in crisis 24/7, 365 days taking people from the breaking point to the turning point.

In 1966, three Dallas ministers had a vision that would become CONTACT Crisis Line by drawing from their own experiences with middle-of-the-night crisis calls from congregation members.  They decided that Dallas needed a 24-hour crisis line service and so CONTACT was born and modeled after the Lifeline program in Sydney, Australia.  CONTACT Dallas became the first center in the United States and model agency for a nationwide network known as CONTACT USA.

ISYS:  The motto for CONTACT is “We are here to listen, not to judge.”  Please say more about that.

Bob:  Listening is core of what we do at CONTACT every day.  Nearly 42,000 calls were taken in 2009 by our trained and dedicated crisis line specialists.  They listened to people with relationship issues, family issues, financial situations, mental illness, legal problems, job issues, medical issues, isolation, depression and some who felt they could no longer go on.  Sometimes callers need someone they don’t know and will not judge them.  We are just here to help, no judgment.

ISYS:  What services does CONTACT offer?

Bob:  CONTACT’s core programs include: Crisis Prevention and Resources Services- Our Crisis Line Specialists supports callers 24 hours a day with crisis prevention services and referral services to other community agencies if needed.

The Emergency Aid Program provides free transportation to those in a potentially life-threatening situation to a safe place; DART day passes for critical transportation needs; and essential prescription funding for life-sustaining medications for those that can no longer afford them due to hardships.

Our Teen CONTACT Program is dedicated to teens by providing telephone crisis intervention services and an outreach program that provides training and education concerning teen issues to youth, teachers, counselors and parents.

And Community Engagement is the expansion of our programs to the Spanish speaking community including 2 Spanish speaking crisis lines.

ISYS:  Betty, what is "Turning Point Boot Camp:  A New Year, A New You!"?

Betty:  The Turning Point Boot Camp: A New Year, A New You! Is a workshop designed to help participants jump past the regular resolution runaround and get started on a path of changes that they are able to sustain long term.  Most people make New Year’s resolutions only to fall off the wagon by the 20th of the month.  It is not the desire that is missing, it is not the need for change or the list of changes – we believe it is we are using the wrong tools to make the changes we want to do stick.  The Bootcamp is a laser-focused few hours that will propel the participants forward for months to come.  They will learn: how to stop “to-do” listing, and start “dream creating”, top nutrition changes to kick-start weight loss, how changing your mind is just a tap away and ways to reduce stress that they can do effortlessly every day.

ISYS:  What about this project interested you as the leader of LWD?

Betty:  We have partnered with CONTACT Crisis Line on several projects last year and are looking forward to supporting CONTACT Crisis Line throughout this year and into the future.  CONTACT is more than a suicide hotline; they provide that professional, supportive ear for anyone in crisis – which for some might be financial troubles, relationship or loneliness. CONTACT provides such a valuable service to the community; we wanted to do what we could to support them.

Many of our services at Living Well Dallas, are helping people with similar struggles and concerns – maybe not as acute, as the callers to CONTACT, but just as concerning to our clients.  Much of the work we do with our clients is enable change by providing guidance and education.  Likewise, CONTACT is also providing outreach and education. Our missions are synergistic.

ISYS:  Bob, what drew you to co-host this event with Living Well Dallas?

Bob:  Living Well Dallas has always been a great partner with us by helping to support the cause of CONTACT Crisis Line in past events.  Living Well Dallas was the perfect choice to facilitate the New Year , New You Turning Point Boot Camp with their top-rated team and their mission of helping people to live well every day.

ISYS:  What can a participant expect when they attend A New Year, A New You?

Betty:  The Bootcamp is a laser-focused few hours that will propel the participants forward for months to come.  They will learn: how to stop “to-do listing”, and start “dream creating”, top nutrition changes to kick-start weight loss, how changing your mind is just a tap away and ways to reduce stress that they can do effortlessly every day.

In one day, they will have tools and have taken action in the top areas that are on most New Year’s resolutions: weight loss, organization, stress management and time management.  Participants can expect a highly interactive and fun day with lots of usable information and actionable steps to getting the year of their dreams.  We recommend dressing comfortably as we will be doing meditation in the morning, learning and moving in the afternoon and even creating our Vision Boards in the late afternoon.
